Windsurf Instructor Level 3

Level 3 Windsurf Instructor Courses are the right choice for all of our Level 2 Instructors who like to take their teaching and own windsurfing skills to a higher level. During those courses, we focus on the technique of intermediate and advanced windsurfing manouvers and how to teach them professionally. 

Level 3 Instructors are Windsurfing experts with a very high own riding level and a deep understanding for complex movements. Their methodical skills and experience make them the true experts on the beach!


For the course:

  • valid VDWS Level 2 Windsurf Instructor License
  • valid VDWS membership
  • Advanced Windsurf Skills
  • teaching experience

To complete the license:

  • practical exam at the end of the Level 3 Instructor seminar

Each Level 3 Instructor Seminar ends with a practical exam.

 

Topics Level 3 Seminars

Prerequisites:
- VDWS Level 2 Instructor Licence
- Basic techniques such es longboard jibe, beach start, harness
- Useful, but not a must: safe riding in at least 1 foot strap

Goal:
If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.

Training Contents:
Teaching and optimisation of advanced techniques such as beach start and water start, harness, planing and foot straps, fast tack on a shortboard and power jibe / teaching skills in advanced manoeuvres including: methodical teaching possibilities, special forms of organisation, simulator work as well as teaching materials and licences for advanced techniques / equipment knowledge (advanced equipment) / news from the association.

Exam:
Free choice of equipment up to approx. 160l volume / 2 buoys on a beam reach course.
Step 1: Carry the equipment safely from the beach into the water without touching the ground - start with a beach start.
Step 2: Surf on beam reach to buoy 1, tack around the buoy > surf back and jibe around buoy 2.
Step 3: Surf on beam reach to buoy 1 with at least the front foot in the strap, make a manoeuvre of your choice (tack or jibe) around buoy 1 > surf back to buoy 2 - again with at least the front foot in the strap.
Step 4: Return to the start position.

Prerequisites:
- VDWS Level 2 Instructor Licence
- Skills of board control (VDWS Level 1 exam)
- Safe riding with both feet in the straps and water start on a board with a max volume (= body weight + equipment weight x 1.5)

Goal:
If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.

Training Contents:
Development of movement sequences > action - function / analysis of possible forms of organisation - depending on content and conditions / methodical preparation of some cool moves and development of adapted teaching models / improvement of own riding skills / news from the association.

    Depending on conditions and riding skills, it will be chosen out of the following manoeuvres: Power Jibe, Slam Jibe, Backwind Jibe, Duck Jibe, Leeward Tack, Heli Tack, Pushtack, Chop Hop, Pop Hop, Monkey Jibe, Donut, Carved 360, Speed Loop.

    Exam:
    1 version of tack and 1 version of jibe - selection by the participants themselves together with the VDWS trainer from the manoeuvres trained and practised on site. Preparation: Free choice of equipment > max. board volume = body weight + equipment weight x 1.5

    > Exam in light winds: 2 buoys on a beam reach course.
    Step 1: Start with beach or water start.
    Step 2: Surf on beam reach to buoy 1, tack around the buoy > surf back and jibe around buoy 2
    Step 3: Surf on beam rach to buoy 1 with both feet in the straps, make a manoeuvre of your choice around buoy 1 (tack or jibe without straps) > surf back to buoy 2 - again with both feet in the straps.
    Step 4: Return to the start position. End.

    > Exam in strong winds (planing): Free divison of space - the manoeuvres (1 tack and 1 jibe each) are performed within 5 minutes near the examiner without falling. The manoeuvres must be performed with both feet in the straps!

    Prerequisites:
    - VDWS Level 2 Instructor Licence
    - Foot straps / harness
    - Water start (basic knowledge)

    For the exam: experience in foil surfing.
    Without experience in foil surfing it is unlikely for the participant to pass the exam.

    Goal:
    If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
    Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.

    Training Contents:
    Equipment knowledge (incl. handling and trimming) / physical background / safety aspects / "simulator work" for take-off / series of exercises to control the flight altitude and riding on different courses / preparation for the manoeuvres jibe and tack / methodical and organisational background / grid beginner course foiling / news from the association

    Exam:
    Different courses incl. 1 manoeuvre.
    Key Points: Successful take-off and "flying" (duration: at least 15-20 seconds - depending on conditions). End "flying" by a manoeuvre (possible in the air OR cruising/not planning).
