SUP Instructor Level 3
Level 3 SUP Instructor Courses are the right choice for all of our Level 2 Instructors who like to take their teaching and own SUP skills to a higher level. During those courses, we focus on the technique of intermediate and advanced SUP manouvers and how to teach them professionally.
Level 3 Instructors are SUP experts with a very high own riding level and a deep understanding for complex movements. Their methodical skills and experience make them the true experts on the beach!

Each Level 3 Instructor Seminar ends with a practical exam.
Topics Level 3 Seminars
Prerequisites:
- VDWS SUP Level 2 Instructor Licence
Goal:
If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.
Training Contents:
Paddling techniques in the wave / getting to know white water / paddling out / paddling in / safety / equipment / gaining practical experience / organisational forms of teaching / corrections / theoretical background wave pictures, channel etc. / rules in the wave / news from the association
Exam:
Safety/Demonstration: From a start and finish line on the beach, the safe paddling out behind the waves, a kick turn after about 50 metres and the confident paddling back are assessed. The finish line must be crossed again after five minutes at the latest. A maximum of two attempts, one fall is allowed.
Own practical skills: In a defined area, at least two waves are paddled into within five minutes, ridden down and the "wave ride" is completed without a fall. A total of two falls are allowed.
Prerequisites:

Goal:
If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.
Training Contents:
Getting to know the area / assessing and evaluating the paddling techniques of other participants / tour planning: organisation, safety, nature and environment, equipment / conducting tours with different focuses: safety aspects, mutual towing, instructor behaviour, instructor location, corrections, paddling upstream, skilfully scheduling and using breaks / follow-up tours / social media / news from the Association
Exam:
Safety: Adequately attach a person's equipment to their own board (leash or tow rope) and tow to a suitable exit point.
Technique: From the main current into the backwater and back again with a maximum of one fall. Paddling about 20 metres upstream to a buoy, round it and return to the starting point without falling. A maximum two attempts.
Prerequisites:
- VDWS SUP Level 2 Instructor Licence
- Basic knowledge of yoga is required, safe handling of sun salutations A and B
- Experience in fitness with own body weight
Goal:
If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.
Training Contents:
Experiencing SUP Yoga sessions / experiencing SUP fitness sessions / exemplary lesson structure / lesson planning / organisational forms / breathing / teacher behaviour / variations / safety / news from the association
Exam:
The exam consists of a demonstration on land and an instruction of a short SUP yoga or fitness session on the water.
Demonstration: On land, sun salutation A and sun salutation B are taught with the appropriate breathing rhythm. Breathing is combined with the movement postures. There is a maximum of two attempts.
Teaching SUP Yoga/Fitness: The course group will be taught either SUP Yoga or SUP Fitness for 10-15 min, in any organisational form. The organisational form and safety, the content structure, the methodical approach and the teaching competence are assessed.

Goal:
If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.
Training Contents:
Refreshing paddling techniques VDWS Level 2 / deepening paddling techniques / paddling technique and body use / equipment knowledge / paddle physics / slipstreaming / beach start / exploiting the wake of the person in front / seat start / 10 km tour paddling / news from the association
Exam:
Speed: A triangular course of about 600 metres with a start and finish line on the beach is paddled according to the time set by the teaching team + a maximum of 30 seconds. One fall is allowed.
Technique: In a course consisting of 2 buoys, which are about 40 metres apart, paddling starts on the left of the start/finish buoy with the C-stroke on the right side. The next buoy is rounded from right to left and when the bow points in the new direction, the start buoy is left on the right with the C-stroke on the left. No fall possible. Time allowed by the teaching team + ten seconds.
