Sailing Instructor Level 3
Level 3 Sailing Instructor Courses are the right choice for all of our Level 2 Instructors who like to take their teaching and own Sailing skills to a higher level. During those courses, we focus on the technique of intermediate and advanced SUP manouvers and how to teach them professionally.
Level 3 Instructors are Sailing experts with a very high own riding level and a deep understanding for complex movements. Their methodical skills and experience make them the true experts on the beach!
For the course:

To complete the license:
- practical exam at the end of the Level 3 Instructor seminar

Each Level 3 Instructor Seminar ends with a practical exam.
Topics Level 3 Seminar
Prerequisites:
- VDWS Level 2 Instructor Licence (Dinghy or Catamaran/Dhingy)
- Experience with dinghies is an advantage
Goal:
If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.
Training Contents:
Course structure of a gennaker course and a harness course on a dinghy / mutual coaching (experience, self-learning / deepen) / develop methodical teaching skills / equipment, trimming and physical background / techniques and manoeuvres / news from the association.
Exam:
Up-and-down course (upwind and downwind) with two buoys at wind-dependent distances of approx. 400m-700m. Start and finish are at the leeward buoy.
The course must be circumnavigated twice with one tack on the downwind course and one jibe with gennaker on the upwind course, with the two strokes on each side being approximately the same length (tack or jibe at the level of the motorboat lying in the middle of the course). The helmsman and the foresailor will be judged equally, taking into account the technical aspects of setting, handling and recovering the gennaker and sailing in the trapeze. After two rounds, the helmsman and the foresailor will swap positions.

VDWS Level 2 Instructor Licence (Dinghy or Catamaran/Dhingy)
Goal:
If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.
Training Contents:
Course structure of a gennaker course and a harness course on the cat / mutual coaching (experience, self-learn / deepen) / develop methodical teaching skills / equipment, trim and physical background / techniques and manoeuvres / news from the association
Exam:
The exam will be done with 3-15 knots wind.
Up and down course with a start line (gate downwind, buoys at wind dependent distance). The course must be sailed once with two tacks on a close-hauled course and two jibes with gennaker on a reach course with the best possible strokes. On each AWK course, the sailor must enter and exit the harness once.
The helmsman and the foresailor will be judged equally, taking into account the technical aspects of setting, operating and recovering the gennaker as well as sailing in the harness. After one round, the helmsman and the foresailor will swap positions.

VDWS Level 2 Instructor Licence (Dinghy or Catamaran/Dhingy)

If the participant passes the exam, he/she will receive level 3 of the VDWS instructor training level system.
Participation in the seminar is recognised by the VDWS as further training for licence renewal.

Course framework of a foiling course on a dinghy / mutual coaching (experience, learn / deepen) / develop methodical teaching skills / equipment, trim and physical background / techniques and manoeuvres / news from the association
Exam:
The exam will be done with 8-15 knots wind.
Up and down course (buoys in wind-dependent distance), motorboat between the buoys.
The course must be circumnavigated twice, each time with a foil tack on close-hauled course and a foil gybe on reach, with the best possible strokes (tack or gybe at the height of the motorboat lying in the middle of the course). The helmsman will be judged taking into account the technical aspects of foiling.
